This month’s E&C monthly meeting is on January 25th (Wednesday), 2:00 – 3:30 pm EST.   The ShadowCam instrument onboard the Korean Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter has just returned its first image: the permanently shadowed wall and floor of Shackleton Crater! In light of this exciting news, we will continue to consider facets of a sustainable lunar base.

Funding Opportunities : NASA is currently accepting SBIR/STTR Phase I Submissions.  Proposals due by 5:00pm ET on March 13, 2023.

Dr. Karl Hibbitts is a planetary scientist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory active in data analysis, instrument development, and laboratory experiments. He is deputy-PI of the Europa Clipper Mapping Imaging Spectrometer for Europa and is the technical lead of the Lunar Surface Innovation Initiative in-situ resource utilization focus group. Dr. Hibbitts leads an active planetary lunar laboratory spectroscopy facility couples spectral capabilities with an ultra-high vacuum and cryogenic system including simulating relevant radiation environments on the Moon.

John Mankins is President of Artemis Innovation Management Solutions LLC and of Mankins Space Technology, Inc. He is Vice President of the Board for the Moon Village Association, and a member of the Boards for the National Space Society and SPACE Canada. Mankins was formerly Chief Technologist for Human Exploration and Development of Space at NASA HQ.
