Goals:
As lunar technologies and LSIC mature, there is an increased need for cross-collaboration and a synergistic and systems-level approach to our conversations. CC will support the community by maintaining resource hubs, fostering collaboration between CC stakeholders, and raising awareness of CC topics and state-of-the-art technologies for the benefit of all lunar technology development. The CC FA will center efforts on starting and maintaining these conversations as we support the broader LSIC FAs, collaborate amongst stakeholders and the community, and learn from each other!

Milena Bobea Graziano is a Senior Engineer in the Space Exploration Sector at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Puerto Rico, and a masters and Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering. Her work focuses on materials and processes selection, qualification, and testing for spaceflight programs, and has worked on several subsystems for Psyche, Europa Clipper, and Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe. She is also a Deputy Systems Engineer for a gamma ray and neutron sensor instrument going on the JAXA Martian Moons Exploration spacecraft. Within LSIC, Milena is the Extreme Environments Focus Area Lead, and has led the development of a lunar resource for scientists and engineers that can aid the design and test of lunar surface systems titled ECLIPSE: Essential Compilation of Lunar Information in Preparation of Sustained Exploration.

Sarah Hasnain is an impact-driven Astrophysicist and Software Developer. They have supported several flagship NASA missions including Dragonfly, OSIRIS-REx, and the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) – NASA's first planetary defense mission. They are a first-generation college graduate, having earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from Notre Dame of Maryland University, a Women's College in Baltimore, MD. Currently pursuing graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University in Systems Engineering with a Human Systems focus. Sarah's project interests include: Innovation Strategy, AI Ethics, Systems Medicine, Human Factors, Bio-Inspired Tech, Serendipity in Big Data, Disability and Health in Space.

Justin Likar
Justin Likar is a Cognizant Engineer within the JHU APL Space Exploration Sector in Laurel, MD. He serves in Lead Engineer and Principal Investigator capacity in areas relating to natural and manmade space radiation impacts on space system design and operation. Specific topical areas of expertise include Dose, Dose Rate, and Single Event Effects in microelectronics, spacecraft charging, space weather, climatology, targeted sensing, and on-orbit operations and anomaly attribution. Current projects of significance include Europa Clipper (multiple instruments therein), Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP), Io Volcano Observer (IVO), and Van Allen Probes extended mission along with a number of Department of Defense and National Security Space programs. He served on the Steering Committee for the 2017 Space Environment Engineering and Science Applications Workshop (SEESAW) the 2018 and 2020 Spacecraft Charging Technology Conference (SCTC), and the 2019 Applied Space Environments Conference (ASEC). Prior to joining APL in 2018 Justin was with Lockheed Martin Space Systems (Newtown, PA) from 2001-2014 and United Technologies Aerospace Systems (2014-2017).

Anna Martin is a geologist with experience in laboratory analyses of geologic samples, image processing, and analysis of planetary datasets. Her lab research focuses on analyzing lunar Apollo samples, instrument calibration, phase-ratio image analysis, geochemical and geotechnical analysis of lunar regolith simulants and has field experience studying impact craters and lunar analogs. As a team member of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) and Miniature Radio-Frequency (Mini-RF) instruments abord the LRO, she has extensive experience with creating high-precision, geodetically-controlled mosaics of high-interest lunar features to better understand lunar regions and impact craters. She currently works in the APL Space Exploration Sector under the Moon and Rocky Planets group.

Dr. James P. Mastandrea is a Senior Professional Staff member at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory’s Space Exploration Sector. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering, and an MS and PhD in Materials Science & Engineering all from the University of California, Berkeley. He has experience in computational materials science, nucleation, growth, and microstructural evolution of materials, and understanding material performance with an emphasis on semiconductors and metals. He also serves on the project management team of a NASA Heliophysics’ study on an Interstellar Probe, a mission concept that would explore our habitable astrosphere and our local interstellar medium.

Danielle Mortensen is a scientist, engineer, and technologist in the Space Exploration Sector at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. She has a B.S. in Astronomy and Astrophysics and a B.A. in Philosophy from Villanova University. On the Lunar Surface Innovation Consortium (LSIC) Extreme Access team, Danielle works with NASA’s STMD to identify key technologies and technology gaps with regard to lunar autonomy, mobility, communications, and position, navigation, and timing. In addition to her LSIC work, she is currently involved in several NASA missions. On NASA’s Dragonfly planetary exploration mission to Titan, she is a test engineer for the WIND and STHERM sensors as a part of the DraGMet instrument and is involved in characterizing the DraGNS instrument high voltage power supply electronics. She is also part of exoplanet research distinguishing super-Earths and sub-Neptunes, research in simulating Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spectroscopy data, analyzing Apollo samples, and testing the low voltage power supply flight hardware for NASA’s IMAP mission.

Dr. Jorge Núñez is a senior planetary scientist and astrobiologist in the Space Exploration Sector at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He received dual BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Arizona State University (ASU). His primary research focuses on studying the geology and composition of planetary surfaces from the micro-to the macro-scale using a variety of remote sensing and in situ techniques, as well as development of instruments and technologies for extreme environments such as the Moon, Mars, and beyond. He is a team member on multiple planetary missions and instruments. He has expertise in microscopy, visible/near-infrared spectroscopy, and instrument development. Dr. Núñez also coordinates the Planetary Exploration Research Lab (PERL) at APL. Over the years, he has participated in several analog field tests simulating robotic and human missions to the Moon, including NASA ISRU and Desert RATS field tests, and worked with lunar samples collected during the Apollo missions. He is a Fulbright Scholar and the recipient of a NASA Early Career Fellowship and multiple NASA Group Achievement awards. Asteroid 176610 Núñez was named in his honor.

Dr. Angela Stickle is a planetary geologist with a background in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, magnetospheric physics, and impact processes on planetary surfaces. She received her bachelors degrees in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering as well as Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Washington, and her Masters' degrees in Geology and Engineering and Ph.D in Geological Sciences from Brown University. She is currently a senior research scientist at the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory. Her work focuses on impact processes in the solar system, including the Moon, Mars, asteroids, and the icy moons of Saturn and Jupiter. She is a Co-Investigator on the Mini-RF radar and LRO-LAMP instrument aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, the Dragonfly mission, and leads the impact modeling team for the Double Asteroid Redirection Test. Her research includes lunar surface evolution and maturation, experimental and numerical studies of damage formed by hypervelocity impacts, dynamic failure and fragmentation of materials, planetary defense, as well ascratering processes in icy targets. She uses an interdisciplinary approach to better understand impact phenomena, combining experiments (impact and dynamic failure) with numerical models and remote sensing to evaluate impact structures.

Dr. Stacy Teng is an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in the Applied Space Research group. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, developing expertise in multiwavelength (from radio to X-ray) observations to study black holes in merging galaxies. Following her studies, she was a NASA postdoctoral fellow at Goddard Space Flight Center and a member of the NuSTAR science team. Most recently, she was a research staff member in the Science and Technology Division of the Institute for Defense Analyses. In that capacity, she led and participated in studies for the Department of Defense in areas of directed energy, modeling and simulations of weapon system effectiveness, roadmap assessments, technical program reviews, and database development.

Lindsey Tolis is an Aerospace Systems Engineer in the Space Exploration Sector at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. She graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering and from Colorado Technical University with an MS in Systems Engineering. Her previous work involved systems engineering, development, and testing of Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Systems, including oxygen generation, carbon dioxide capture, and water purification in microgravity. In addition to the dust mitigation focus group, she is currently working on requirements engineering for the Europa Clipper program. She is excited to be a part of the dust mitigation focus group and contribute to the efforts to establish a continual human presence on the Moon.
